The eighth auction of Australian White rams and ewes at Narrandera by the Gilmore family, Tattykeel stud, Oberon, and Josh Clinton, Camden Valley stud, The Oaks, saw strong interest from repeat buyers along with a new purchaser underpinning the sale.
Speaking after the sale vendors, Martin Gilmore and Josh Clinton, each expressed satisfaction the sheep they presented attracted strong competition.
“It was a great sale and although we didn’t sell many ewes we will always bring them here to allow producers the opportunity,” Mr Clinton said.
Mr Gilmore thought it was the best sale the Tattykeel stud had recorded although a few rams were passed in.
“We always make sure there are plenty of rams here for people to bid on,” he said.
Top price for rams at $3250 was paid three times and 61 out of 69 rams averaged $1960.66 while eight ewes were offered with one sold for $800.
Sale results:
- Tattykeel – 40 rams top at $3250 and av. $2102.50
- Camden Valley – 21 rams top at $3000 and average $1690.48; and one ewe from eight at $800.
Return buyers, Daniel and Phillipa Jones, “Needlewood”, Condobolin, selected six rams and paid top price of $3250 twice for their choice of the offering on account the Gilmore family, Tattykeel.
“Quick turnover” was the immediate response from the Joneses when asked about their interest in the breed.
“We love the breed,” Mr Jones said.
“They are good doers in our country, we are turning off lambs at six months weighing 28kg over-the-hooks.
“It means we can run more stock on our place.”
First time buyers and purchaser of 22 rams was Rob Sinclair, manager “Wyangerie”, Quambone, for Warren Rural P/L who was assisted by Tony Mooy, SBBL, Coonamble.
Included in their draft was a ram bought from Josh Clinton, Camden Valley stud, for $3000 and their draft averaged $2130.
Mr Sinclair said he is focused on meat production and the Australian White rams will be joined to recently bought Wiltipoll ewes.
“We are aiming at forming a self-replacing Australian White flock,” he said.
Return buyers included Con Francis, Deniliquin, who paid an average $1433 for nine rams, and Hugh Irving, Trangie, who bought four rams for an average $1425.
Buyers from WA, Cobbity, Lockhart, Walbundrie, Nagambie, Vic, Cootamundra and Springhurst, Vic, also bought at the sale.
The auction was conducted by Michael Glasser, GTSM, Wodonga, and settled by the QPL team, Narrandera, led by Craig Pellow.
