The plan, which was one of 11 launched around the state, will set the strategic direction for pest animal management in the western region and guide resourcing and investment dedicated to co-ordinated pest animal management.
Chairman of the Western Region Pest Animal Committee, Neill Leigo, believes the plan, which was released for public comment for six weeks earlier this year, will be well received by everyone in the western region.
“The impact of pest animals on primary production, communities and our natural environment can be severe,” Mr Leigo said.
“Pest animals create biosecurity risks through spreading weeds and disease, preying on native animals and livestock, land erosion and waterway degradation.
“The plan identifies priority pest animals and appropriate management tools, and has been developed in consultation with stakeholders and the community to ensure strong and responsive management activities that are fit for purpose in the western region.”
The plan will allow landholders, community members and organisations to build on the pest animal management activities that are already being carried out in the western region.
Western Local Land Services has also carried out a number of training, accreditation and capacity building opportunities with landholders and community members relating to pest animal management.
