IT TAKES a certain type of character to enjoy life in the country, where fun comes not from theme parks, game consoles or trendy hangouts, but from the people around you, the wide open spaces and the ability to simply have a laugh with your mates.
This is the essence of The Land’s Louts and Larrikins Photographic and Video Competition, which celebrates the bush larrikin in us all. Readers have entered their photos for a chance to win a share of the prize pool, which totals $5045 in value and includes a 35T Timberwolf log splitter from BiggerBoyzToyz, an Optus Satellite Satsleeve, and an oilskin and single swag from Goodwoods Saddlery.
Best photo, to be judged by our readers from a eight finalists to be selected by The Land, wins the 35T Timberwolf, valued at $3949, with a 35-tonne vertical or horizontal splitting capacity. The towable log splitter is equipped with a 6.7 kilowatt Subaru EX 270 engine, which makes light work of tougher logs. It also features a 16 second total ram cycle, optional jockey wheel, two-year domestic or 90-day commercial warranty, 50 millimetre towing coupler, 620mm splitting length, three-point control operating lever, automatic returning wedge, built-in log dislodger, heavy duty log trays and tyres, one-handed operation, two-stage hydraulic pump and is constructed around a full-beam design.
Second-placed photo, also judged by our readers, will win a single swag to the value of $139.95.
Best video, judged by The Land, wins the Optus Satsleeve, valued at $888. This transforms any compatible smartphone into a satellite phone. It is useful in areas where 3G/4G mobile coverage is doesn’t exist, according to Optus Satellite, and allows access to voice, SMS and data, with Australia-wide coverage where there is line-of-sight to the satellite. The Land will also give away an oilskin to the value of $69.95 as a reader prize, drawn from reader voting coupons, the coupon for which will be available in The Land, issue January 12, 2017.
Entries have now closed and the finalists will be announced on January 12.
