TAMWORTH’s biggest event of the year is here again and country music artists and fans are rolling into the regional city for the 10-day celebration of all things country.
The Tamworth Country Music festival kicks off tomorrow with the opening concert in the park featuring The Bushwhackers, Catherine Britt and Amber Lawrence.
Tamworth Regional Council country music and events manager Barry Harley said about 700 musicians would perform in more than 120 venues across the city, which doubles in size with more than 50,000 visitors.
Between 4000 and 5000 country music lovers have bunked down on the riverside sporting fields and all motels and caravan parks are booked. About 350 buskers are set to line Peel Street.
“The festival injects about $53 million into the Tamworth economy each year,” Mr Harley said.
“Council invests about $1.9 million into running the festival, and of that we recover $1.5 million, so we’re getting huge value for council’s investment.”
