IN what is thought to be an Australian beef industry first, the organisers of the Scone Speckle Park Sale held their inaugural Speckle Park Futurity Show last Friday night.
With about 20 entries, the breed first event was judged by Andrew and Brooke Rayner from Grathlyn Poll Herefords, Mudgee, and Alastair Rayner from Rayner Ag, Tamworth.
Participants were required to nominate the sire and dam, and then the calf throughout the year with entry fees accumulating in a prize pool that was divided up among the top five placegetters in each section.
With a score of 92 out of 100, Fox Tail Hill Never Forget Me from Troy Hepburn, Fox Tail Hill Speckle Parks, McKees Hill, took out the heifer futurity and received a cash prize of $1500.
Second place was Ersyldene Petrice from the Constable family, Tambar Springs, who received $800, third was Jackungah Kodo P17 exhibited by Jack Nelson, Victoria, who received $400, fourth was Rose Hill All About Me from the Rose Hill Speckle Park stud who received $200, and fifth was Rose Hill American Jubilee, also from the Rose Hill stud, who received $100.
Rose Hill stud principals Alex Pateman and Natalie Merz, Rylstone, snapped up a $1500 cheque when their entry Rose Hill All Set P9 was crowned the inaugural bull futurity winner.
Second and $800 went to Rose Hill Bertie, the $400 for third place went to Jackungah Power Play, and fourth was Rose Hill Vanilla Pie that received $200.
Trophies were awarded to; most successful sire Underhill All Out 1D, most successful dam Rose Hill Chantilly Lace K13, and most successful breeder Mr Pateman and Ms Merz from Rose Hill Speckle Parks.
The success of this such event will see it return annually as part of the Scone Speckle Park Sale.
