Quality keeps coming on day two of the Wodonga weaner sales

The second day of weaner sales at the Northern Victorian Livestock Exchange (NVLX) have come to a close. A total yarding of 4500 top-quality weaner steers and heifers went under the hammer at the Wodonga Blue Ribbon Weaner Sale. This was the second day of annual weaner sales at NVLX following a solid result yesterday for the Corcoran Parker sale. Corcoran Parker offered 2763 Angus steers and heifers, which included a few yearling cattle. Competition was quite varied, despite lacking some of the usual buying force. At today’s sale, January 4, a highlight was the strong offering of European Union-accredited lines. Drought-hit Walgett farmer, Michael O’Brien, breathed a sigh of relief after unloading 200 young Angus steers at the Blue Ribbon weaner sale at Wodonga today. He trucked the steers to Humula in the Albury district on agistment 10 weeks ago from his parched “The Brigalows” property near Carinda. Read his story here. The Quilter family returned home to Narrandera after scoring a strong result for their draft of 134 EU-accredited steers at the annual Blue Ribbon Angus mixed sex weaner sale at Wodonga on Thursday. The Quilter steers topped at $1255 for a pen of 30 Dinoon-blood nine to 10-month-olds weighing an average 391kg. A pen of 53 steers, same age and breeding as the top pen but weighing an average 347kg, fetched $1160 a head. Read more here. Day two of the Wodonga Blue Ribbon calf sales was a winner for independent agents Brian Unthank Rural (BUR), Paull&amp;Scollard, Peter Ruaro-Rodwells and Schubert Boers (SB). Having second position, a larger and very good quality yarding of 4111 cattle, and more buyers, created a stronger sale in places.
