WITH a sale-topping $66,000 the National Alpaca sale went off with a bang at Bendigo, Victoria, on the weekend.
The sale featured 14 lots and averaged $25,630, with sales totalling $256,300 from 10 lots sold.
All bar one of the animals on offer was a female.
The sale-topping animal was the single male, lot 2, a leopard appaloosa Grand Flowerdale GP Toros ET offered by Flowerdale Alpacas, Kalorama, Victoria, and purchased by Neo Alpacas, Victoria, in partnership with New Zealand's NZ Summerhill Alpacas.
Top priced female, lot 1, went to South Australia's Ambersun Alpacas offering, the solid light fawn female Ambersun Pure Exception.
It sold for $55,000 to Steve Klingsporn and Steven Chiodo, who started Merrijig Alpacas only 11 months ago.
Pure Exception was named supreme champion Huacaya at the National show also held that weekend.
The only Suri in the auction, offered by Victoria stud Surilana, Strathbogie, Surilana Seraphim with a male cria at foot, sold for $22,000 to New Zealand stud, Waiheke Alpacas, Waiheke Island.
Other top results included Millpaca Solatine ET White offered by Millpaca, Berry, which sold for $27,500; and Alpha Centauri Vyktoriya, offered by Alpha Centauri Alpacas, Jerrawa, which sold for $25,300.
