THE State’s three cane growing regions, the Tweed, Richmond and Clarence valleys on the North Coast, look set to produce a 1.45 million tonne crop, up about 200,000t on forecasts.
In the breakdown, Condong and Harwood mills should crush close to 430,000t and Broadwater 600,000t by the time the season finishes in early December.
Commercial cane sugar percentages are back a bit on average, however high tonnage has meant sugar production per hectare is up.
NSW Sugar Milling Co-operative chairman Ian Causley said that was good news after three years of below average harvests on the back of floods and extended wet periods.
