EXPANSION of on-farm grain storage is clearly on the minds of coastal growers judging by the strong interest in a workshop held at Casino yesterday.
Held on the farms of experienced local growers Paul Fleming and Peter Ludlow, the event covered everything from identifying insect pests and fumigation practices to the economics of investing in silos, aeration and hygiene.
The event was funded by the Grains Research and Development Corporation, as part of their Grower Solutions program, and run by NSW Department of Primary Industries.
It featured leading experts in post-harvest grain protection Philip Burrill, Andrew Ridley and Chris Warrick.
More on the specifics of good silo management, how to work out if it pays to add more storage and pest identification in upcoming editions of The Land.
