At the Carcoar store cattle sale last Friday the market performed extremely well with a strong yarding of 4216 head to match.
The market was firm to dearer across the entire sale.
Weaners sold to the largest price increase and were mostly of good quality and the larger proportion in good store condition.
McCarron Cullinane livestock agent Lindsay Fryer, Orange, said even though there were a lot of young steers offered they sold really well and he was very happy with how it went.
"A lot of clients selling were doing so to lighten the load for cows calving in the spring," Mr Fryer said.
Landmark Bathurst agent Bill Gilbert said it was pleasing to see so many buyers from the south active on the big steer yarding.
"The market has been going extremely well considering it's winter," he said.
"People are judging that it's going to be a reasonable winter."
Weaner steers sold from $305 to $740, averaging $503, while weaner heifers sold from $145 to $555 and averaged $368.
Yearling steers ranged from $490 to $680 and averaged $600, while yearling heifers sold from $230 to $570 and averaged $392.
