NSW Minister for Natural Resources, Lands and Water Kevin Humphries and Member for Lismore Thomas George announced the renovations to the dam today, which included increased spillway capacity.
“The upgrade to this dam (located south of Murwillumbah) now means Clarrie Hall Dam can pass floods many times greater than the largest flood on record,” Mr Humphries said.
Mr George said the NSW Government contributed $1.3 million to help Tweed Shire Council meet the cost of the upgrade.
“With Tweed Shire Council responsible for the provision of water services to over 70,000 people, the supply of reliable, affordable and sustainable water to the region is absolutely vital,” Mr George said.
“I am very pleased that through the Clarrie Hall Dam upgrade the NSW Government is continuing its commitment to securing the region’s water supply and protecting downstream communities from the potentially devastating effects of extreme flooding.”
