ANGUS Steers sold to a top of $714 at the Canberra annual weaner calf sale last Friday.
The 1353-head yarding sold to spirited bidding on the good conditioned cattle at the Queanbeyan saleyards.
Sale agents, Greg Darmody and David Reid of W.J. Gibbs and Company, Queanbeyan, said although the cattle were back on the Easter sales, the better conditioned calves sold well.
He said heifers were 10 cents a kilogram cheaper.
Mr Reid said vendors and buyers were happy with the sale, despite the seasonal conditions.
"Buyers were from South Aus- tralia, Braidwood, Cootamundra, Queanbeyan, Wagga Wagga and Gundagai," Mr Reid said.
Steers sold from 100c/kg, equalling $215, to a top of 225c/kg, making $714.
Heifers sold from 136c/kg, equalling $193, to a top of 167c/kg, making $543.
Jackson and Roberts, "Glenrock", Braidwood, sold 23 Angus weaner steers, weighing an average of 317kg, to a top of 225c/kg, to return $714.
Bill Bates, "Valley View", Hoskinstown, sold weaner steers, weighing an average of 335kg, to a top of 210c/kg, to return $703.
Hampsons Brothers, Bungendore, sold 25 Angus weaner steers, weighing an average of 319 kilograms, to a top of 214c/kg, to return $682, purchased by the Schlarger Family, Banjo via Queanbeyan.
A and J Adamson, "NAAS", sold 60 yard-weaned Angus steers, weighing an average of 285kg, to a top of 214c/kg, to return $609.
Andrew Caudel, "Mugga", Mugga, sold 18 Angus weaner heifers, weighing an average of 302kg, to a top of 166c/kg, to return $501.
P and J Rowley, "Booberoi", Uralla, sold 25 Angus weaner heifers, weighing an average of 310kg, to a top of 161c/kg, to return $499.
The sale was conducted by W.J. Gibbs and Co Pty Ltd, Queanbeyan.
