REILAND Angus achieved a top price of $12,000 at their annual sale last Wednesday, recording one of the better averages of the autumn selling season.

Following spirited bidding at Killimicat Station, Tumut, 52 of the 60 bulls on offer sold for an average of $5510.
Loyal repeat buyers and volume bidders made their presence known on the day, with the top bull secured by long term clients Houston Pastoral Company, “Burrowye Station”, Wodonga, Victoria.
Graham, James and Michael Houston took home nine bulls to add to their feedlot steer operation, at an average of $8500.
The $12,000 Reiland Hilldale H937 was in the top one per cent of the breed for growth, eye muscle area (EMA), carcase weight and retail beef yield.
The son of Dunoon Evident E614 had a +4.1 birthweight, recorded +50 to +121 for 200- to 600-day growth, had an EMA of +11.5 and a +2.5 IMF percentage.
The August 2012-drop bull had an RBY percentage of +2.0 and tested positive in rib and rump fats.
Houston Pastoral also paid the second-top price of $11,500 for Reiland Howell H943.
The son of Te Mania Berkley B1 was in the top one per cent for birthweight and the top five per cent for EMA, RBY and marbling.
Repeat buyer Spring Hill Angus, Woodlands, secured Reiland Hoola H697 at $11,000.
The August 2012-drop bull was in the top ten per cent for EMA at +6.9 and for fat scores, with +0.8 and +1.7 respectively for rib and rump.
The son of Tuwharetoa E30 was also in the top five per cent for IMF at +2.9.
Sale auctioneer Michael Glasser, Glasser Total Sales Management, Albury, said the clearance was an outstanding result with spirited bidding particularly on the top end.
Volume buying continued throughout the sale with long-term clients Taranee Pastoral Company, Tarcutta, upgrading an ageing bull battery by purchasing 10 bulls to a top of $8000, averaging $5300.
Another three bulls were sold to Coolong Pastoral Company, Hay, to a top of $7500, averaging $5333, while Tiana Park, Jugiong, took home two bulls with high marbling a clear focus, averaging $4500.
Victorian breeders K and S Cordery, “Bald Hills”, Gelantipy, purchased two lots at $6000 and $7000.
Not far from home, Adelong producers M and J Campbell and M and A Pearce actively bid for bulls to add to their self-replacing herds, as was Southern Tablelands buyer Kalkite Pastoral, Crookwell.
“There was a significant refocus on commercial attributes of muscularity, soundness and maternal traits,” co-principal Mark Lucas said.
The sale was conducted by Elders and Glasser Total Sales Management.
