Scores pending, students were either celebrating or commiserating with each other, but for Dubbo's school principals they were generally pleased with the results.
At Senior Campus, outgoing school captain Mike Jeffrey, vice-captain Nathan Hawkes and Adam Mitchell were all rewarded for their hard work during the year.
Mike recorded a 92 in maths extension 1, which came on the back of getting 92 in maths 2 unit which he did as a Year 11 student.
Nathan's highlight was getting 93 in legal studies, and he said he was reasonably pleased with his results, but had several near misses where an extra point or two would have placed him in the higher band.
For Adam, he got a 92 in PDHPE and a 94 in industrial technology, and although he has completed his studies, will still be getting around the school next year.
"I've got a job here at Senior Campus working in the careers room which I am looking forward to," he said.
"It will be funny calling teachers their first name and being on the same level but I am looking forward to it."
Macquarie Anglican Grammar School (MAGS) headmaster Craig Mansour was very pleased with the results of their year 12 students across the board, but singled out two students for special praise.
"Kelsey Harper achieved a band 6 for community and family studies (CAFS) and high 80s for all other subjects," he said.
"Nisal Samaratunga scored a band 6 in maths 2 unit and an E4 which is like a band 6 in extension 1 maths.
"Nisal is a year 11 student who did his maths through the School of Distance Education and we are looking forward to seeing how we goes next year.
"They are the two who've done exceptionally well but we congratulate all our students and are proud of their efforts."
Elsewhere at St John's College, two students received Premier's Awards, which is for achieving a band 6 in all subjects.
They also had a student finish second for religion 2 unit, had two students finish in the top 15 for standard English and another finish 20th in English advanced 2 unit.
St John's College principal Kerry Morris was pleased for all 140 odd students who received their HSC scores and was especially proud of those who received individual awards.
"To have 60 on the distinguished list for achieving a band 6 is fantastic," she told the Daily Liberal yesterday. "We are very happy from a cohort we have done a lot of work with."
Dubbo School of Distance Education relieving principal Deb Murray said the school had performed better than last year which was a credit to the students and teachers.
"All our specialist area subjects like agriculture and engineering studies went well and we had 60 per cent of students achieve a band 4 or better."
