The 400-kilometre trip across the mountain was well worth it for Narrabri competitor Rodney McKinnon who took out top honours in both.
First up was the open campdraft which started with 195 competitors.
In a final of 24, Mr McKinnon rode his Reflect mare, Resign, to a one point win ahead of local competitor Chris Williamson, on Alejandra.
Queensland competitor Kimberley Sammon tied on equal third with her two entries, Seligmans Elle and Revlon.
In the Grafton Select Campdraft Mr McKinnon rode Rolley, owned by Matthew Cribb, Inverell, to victory ahead of Ben Thompson on Rodlor Lucky, the horse Mr McKinnon sold to Mr Thompson at the previous year's sale.
In third place was Bundarra local, Wade McKinnon on Cloverlly Karma, his sale entry which sold for $11,000 the following day.
Wild West Cutters Show
WILD West Cutters hosted a four day show at Geurie in mid March with the event attracting more than 370 entries from professional and amateur riders.
A $30,000 prize pool was up for grabs with Aaron Wheatley, Shepparton, Victoria, winning the main event for a second consecutive year.
Also taking home a slice of the prize money was Wee Waa rider Laine Bennett who won the Rookies on her "first go putting her hand down" riding Whos Top Tack.
Some proceeds from the event have gone towards upgrading the showgrounds and to the Westhaven Association, which helps people with disability find work.
Vale Bob Wheatley
THE cutting horse industry has lost a great ambassador for the sport and esteemed member of the National Cutting Horse Association (NHCA).
Condolences to the Wheatley family following the death of Bob Wheatley.
Bob's generous contribution to the sport of cutting was duly recognised last year when he was awarded the Brien Cobcroft Memorial Trophy at the 2013 NCHA Futurity.
His passion and dedication for the sport has helped grow and shape it into the industry it is today.
