The rain could not have come at a better time for Louis and Margaret Brooks, "Glenroy", Berridale, who were having a herd dispersal given the upcoming sale of their property.
Mr Brooks Hereford cows, aged from 2.5 to 3.5 years, sold to $530.
Generally, the sale was considered to be much dearer than the previous Friday's weaner sale, with the rain contributing to the dearer trend.
Plenty of onlookers came prepared for the wet weather and were also keen to see how prices performed on the day, with some planning to offer some of their cattle in the next few weeks.
Tamworth heifer's high
THEY were exactly what the buyers were looking for, said Ian Morgan Livestock agent John Rodd, Quirindi, of when he spoke of the pen of Charolais-cross weaner heifers which topped this week's prime cattle sale at Tamworth at 222 cents a kilogram.
Mr Rodd said the heifers, sold by Bill, Cameron and Sue Wilson, "Klori" and "Kimberley", Manilla, had sold for an average of $596 - well above the sale average of 171.8c/kg or $410; the top heifer reached $831.
He said the quality of the calves was a credit to the Wilsons given the tough season. The heifers were July/September drop.
Prices were up on the previous week's sale although numbers were back to less than 1500 head.
