An investigation into the incident will be carried out next week. The empty B-double was travelling south from Moree on the Newell Highway and struck the eastern side of the bridge, damaging the guardrail before veering across the road and striking several panels.
The truck's contact with the guardrail caused punctures and tears in the prime mover's fuel tanks, with the truck losing nearly 1200 litres of diesel.
The highway was closed for more than four hours while emergency crews worked to clean up the spill.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the bridge would be inspected next week and an estimate provided for the repairs, which could be the responsibility of the 53-year-old truck driver or his insurance company.
"The investigation will provide detail about how the incident happened and from there we can determine if we will seek damages from the driver or his insurer," the spokesperson said.
