Les Lever, acting station manager for the Bureau's Moree office, said residents in the North West slopes and plains should take care, with good rain forecast for this evening after big totals last night.
"There is a severe weather warning, with heavy rainfall and a possibility of flash flooding," Mr Lever said.
Burren Junction and Mungindi were two areas with the the highest rainfall last night, with 75mm at Mungindi and 70mm at Burren Junction.
Wee Waa and Narrabri also had heavy falls last night, Mr Lever said.
"There have been reasonable falls during the day in that area as well," he said.
In the event of flash flooding, the State Emergency Service advises that people should avoid driving, riding or walking through flood water, keep clear of storm drains and seek refuge in the highest available place if trapped by rising water.
