TAMWORTH based livestock carrier Scott McDonald, of McDonald Bros Transport, said a whole road should not be shut to heavier trucks if just one section can't carry the heaviest vehicles.

"If there is a bridge 50 kilometres along a 60km road, and the bridge is deemed not good enough, the whole road is classed at the lower weight limit," Mr McDonald said.
He said if people want to reduce the cost of living, they needed to support measures to increase freight efficiencies.
Increasing weight limits on appropriate routes "would definitely help", he said.
"The general population doesn't like trucks, but they forget everything they buy comes on them.
"Meat has to go from the farm to abattoir, or wheat from a mill to processor and distributor, then it all goes to the supermarket.
"Supply chain efficiencies come from making truck movements more effective. It is all about reducing the cost of things.
"Everybody wants more and better and cheaper - the only way is to boost supply chain efficiency."
