MAWARRA Hereford stud principals Peter and Deanne Sykes were happy with the result of their 41st annual sale at Longford, Victoria, on Monday.

A total of 70 of the 90 bulls offered sold to an $11,000 top to average $4779 and 14 of the 23 females offered sold to $3000 to average $2268.
"I was expecting a tough day because breeders have less money to spend this year," Mr Sykes said.
"But we had a handful of new buyers this year."
Peter and Leonie Adams, Staghorn Flat, near Wodonga, have purchased bulls from Mawarra previously, and this year paid the $11,000 top price for Mawarra Limited Edition AI (P).
Limited Edition is by Cherry Z8 and from Mawarra Minerva 010 AI (P), one of Mawarra's best poll cows.
At just 25 months, Limited Edition weighed 1034 kilograms, carried a large frame score of 8.5, and boasted a 1.39kg average daily weight gain.
Keith Davies, Gelantipy, Vic, purchased Mawarra Best Buy (DH), for the equal second-highest price of $10,000.
This strapping frame score 7 bull weighed 882kg at just 20 months.
Mawarra Herefords also sold 14 cows with calves, and joined females.
Mawarra Miss Titania 328 AI (H) and Mawarra Minerva 620 (H) both sold for the top price of $3000.
