THE total winter crop production for NSW will fall by 13 per cent, according to a recent report by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES).

Even though NSW and Queensland have both had poor crop returns this winter due to bad weather conditions, the Australia-wide forecast is for a rise of 12pc, due to bumper seasons in other parts of the country.
"In Western Australia, Victoria and South Australia seasonal conditions have been good, leading to higher winter crop production in these states compared with last season," ABARES Executive Director, Karen Schneider said.
"However, seasonal conditions have been unfavourable in NSW and Queensland, with crop production forecast to fall by 13 pc in NSW and 20 pc in Queensland," she said.
The December edition of the Australian Crop Report forecasts wheat production to increase by 17 pc to 26.2 million tonnes, and barley production to rise by 15 pc to 8.6 million tonnes.
Ms Schneider said that canola production is forecast to fall by 15 per cent to around 3.4 million tonnes – noting this would still be the third largest canola crop on record.
