TWO vineyards in the Young district are up for sale by expressions of interest - and given their strong history of management and considerable development they are expected to appeal to existing commercial operators.

"Pontianak Vineyard" and "Back Boundary Vineyard", each comprising 62ha (153ac) planted to vineyards, are both situated south of Young, ("Back Boundary" about eight kilometres south of town, while "Pontianak" is about 17km to the south).
They have been listed with Colliers International, with expressions of interest closing on July 3.
Colliers Rural and Agribusiness agent Jesse Manuel said the owners had developed the properties from 1999 to 2005.
He said when the properties had been purchased by the current owners they had just been grazing blocks, and so, much work had gone in to create what is available to buyers today.
"One of the main features is a really professional management structure which is in place," Mr Manuel said.
He said the vineyards had been operated by Equitas Group Holdings.
"These are large vineyards so we would expect some of the larger commercial producers to show some interest."
He said there was much to admire of these properties which, if purchased together, would offer the new owners 124ha (306ac) of established vineyards.
These included very high quality improvements, and natural features extending to undulating land views across the area.
"There is good irrigation and infrastructure, and there is also significant water storage on each of the properties," he said.
This includes a 150 megalitre storage dam on each property.
Given the properties were only situated about 10km apart from each other, this should be an attractive incentive for buyers given the potential to spread labour and machinery between the two properties, he said.
Together, he said the properties produced a range of varieties, which extended to about 43ha of shiraz, 30ha of cabernet sauvignon, 26ha to pinot grigio, 10ha to chardonnay, 10ha of sauvignon blanc and 4ha of tempranillo.
Mr Manuel said both vineyards had a proven production history, as well as existing, long-term supply agreements with some major wine producers.
Water entitlements extend to 213 megalitres via a bore supply.
The properties are listed with both Tim Altschwager and Jesse Manuel of Colliers International.
