The Upper Lachlan Shire Council has unveiled two major water improvement projects for the region that will ensure water security and first class drinking water, which is fully compliant with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines 2011.
The projects have a combined value of $12.5 million and have been constructed with the assistance of government funding.
The Taralga Water Treatment Plant has been funded by equal contributions from Upper Lachlan Shire Council and the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program provided by the NSW government's Office of Water.
The Gunning-Dalton Water Supply Scheme has been funded as a result of co-operation through all three tiers of government - Upper Lachlan Shire Council through its water fund; the federal government through its Strengthening Basin Communities Program; and State government through the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program.
Primary Industries Minister Katrina Hodgkinson will open both water improvement projects today.
The official opening ceremony of the Taralga Water Treatment Plant begins at 11am at Martyn Street, Taralga, while that of the Gunning-Dalton Water Supply Scheme begins at 1.30pm on site at Boureong Drive, Gunning.
Upper Lachlan Shire Mayor John Shaw said both projects were important as they provided a secure and high quality water supply to those towns, which would ultimately encourage further development and growth in the region.
