The 1420 head yarding didn't quite meet the expected 1500 head yarding as rain held back some vendors.
"It was a very strong market, much dearer than earlier sales in the north," Elders Glen Innes livestock agent Geoff Hayes said.
"It was 40 cents (a kilogram) up on previous sales."
Mr Hayes said overall the quality of the offering was good, but quality and condition still reflected the tough season.
Overall, 800 steers sold close to $540, averaging 216 cents a kilogram and heifers sold to $380, averaging 160c/kg.
Weaner steers to 200 kilograms sold from $345 to $462 and those in the 200kg to 280kg range sold from $405 to $636.
Those in the 280kg to 330kg range sold from $570 to $704 and those weighing more than 330kg sold to a top of $741, making an overall average of $539.
Weaner heifers to 200kg sold from $252 to $328 and those in the 200kg to 280kg range sold from $305 to $457.
Weaner heifers 280kg to 330kg sold to a top of $506, making an overall average of $386.
Yearling heifers sold to a top of $357 while yearling steers to 330kg sold from $501 to $660, making an average of $562.
The top pen of Angus/Shorthorn steers weighing 304kg were offered by W.J. and J.A. Hunter, "Obanview", Back Water, and sold to Wirth Cattle Company, Glen Elgen, east of Glen Innes, for $667 (219c/kg).
WJ and JA Hunter, "Obanview", Back Water, sold 80 216c/kg Angus/Shorthorn steers to $575.
Clarevaulx Station, Glen Innes, sold 94 Angus steers, weighing 210kg, for $493 (235c/kg).
J.P. and K.M. Newsome, Dundee, sold 24 Angus steers, weighing 250kg, for $560 (224c/kg), while P. and M. Costigan, Grahams Valley, near Glencoe, sold steers for $640 (240c/kg).
A.K. Lewis, Grahams Valley, sold steers to Ranger Valley Cattle Station, Glen Innes, for $663 (218c/kg).
