DUPLICATIVE veterinary and farm chemical product regulations will be axed as part of the Abbott government's promise to save $1 billion a year by cutting red tape.

The government introduced legislation last week to repeal more than 10,000 unnecessary and counterproductive regulations.
Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce said amending the veterinary and farm chemical products legislation would remove duplication and save the industry $1.3 million annually.
He said farmers and the community would still have access to chemicals and veterinary products.
The Coalition will partly repeal the controversial laws passed by the former Labor government last year under then Agriculture Minister Joe Ludwig.
The House of Representatives and Senate held separate inquiries into the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Legislation Bill 2012, with dissenting Coalition members backing industry calls to block the legislation.
CropLife Australia chief executive Matthew Cossey told the Senate inquiry the proposed regulations would increase costs for registrants and applicants by 30 per cent, according to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicine Association's own discussion paper on the Bill.
