Just after 10pm last Friday night, members of the CWA watched on as the record scone was lifted by crane from the purpose-built oven to be weighed at 178 kilograms.
The current Guinness World Record is held by New Zealand for a 121-kilogram scone.
The CWA State Land Cookery Committee and the State president, Elaine Armstrong, were up mixing and preparing the ingredients at 7am last Friday.
The flour was supplied by White Wings – all 111kg of it.
Also used was 33 litres of milk; 4.5kg of butter, 4.5kg of castor sugar and 492 grams of baking powder.
Mrs Armstrong said six ladies helped mix it and it took 13 hours to cook.
She said the scone was made to help raise awareness for CWA Awareness Day, which was held yesterday.
She said the scone was probably equal in ingredients to those used when the CWA tackle their biggest catering event of the year – the Sydney Royal Show, where about 35,000 scones are produced.
It took just more than an hour for the ladies to start kneeding the dough and placing it into the purpose built tin on Friday.
At about 9am, with a weight of 244kg, it was craned into the 300 degrees Celsius oven.
Smell was then used to work out the cooking heat, and it was occasionally checked with a large purpose-built skewer, before the ladies took their first peak under the lid at 5pm.
However, it didn’t emerge until 10pm.
The giant scone will now go on a tour – it started at Cowra Show this week.
