STRONG demand boosted prices to a top of $5000 at Graham and Isabella Grinter’s Retallack Border Leicester on-property production sale, Ariah Park last Tuesday.

Support from both new and repeat clients prevailed with a complete clearance of 123 lots.
Stud rams sold for a total clearance to achieve a $2518 average and $5000 top while stud ewes averaged $350 for a total clearance.
Long term client Mrs Molly Jeffries, Quoin Hill stud, Phillip Island who at 99 years old featured in the Retallack catalogue purchased the top price ram an Exceed and Excell son for $5000.
Mrs Jeffries paid $5000 for the Exceed and Excell son with Australian Sheep Breeding Value (ASBV) of +3.9 kilograms for weaning weight and a Border $Index of 112.4 purchased to replace a seven year old ram who died recently and continues 40 years of purchasing Retallack rams.
Other stud ram sales included Bill Campbell, “Karoa”, Baradine paying to $4250 for two rams, one at $3600 to Kiah Lake Pastoral, “Kiah Lake”, Berridale, and two averaging $3250 to DS Todd, “Wheatfield”, Baradine.
Eighty four flock rams were offered for a total clearance topping at $1400 to average $860.
Among the volume purchasers were EJ Merriman & Son, “Ravensworth”, Yass averaging $1313 for their eight.
Matt Merriman of EJ Merriman & Son who has been purchasing Retallack rams for six years have had success with Retallack genetics producing nice second cross ewes.
Mr Merriman said “Retallack is one of the better studs getting around”.
Mark McGufficke of McGufficke Partners, “Murrumbucca”, Cooma, another repeat client supported Mr Merriman’s comments saying that Retallack genetics are performing well in their enterprise “they do the job, and give confidence in the program”.
Mr McGufficke purchased 12 rams to average $850.
Shirley Pastoral Co, “Shirley”, Nimmitabel, averaged $925 for their eight, while RJ & J Granger, Gunning, purchased eight to average $900.
Retallack co-principal Graham Grinter said it was a good day for Retallack adding “their was good value for buyers”.
Agents in conjunction were Landmark, and Riverina Livestock Agents with Rick Power and Peter Godbolt sharing the rostrum.
