Cobar Business Association president Sharon Harland reported the group would continue with its efforts to keep the economy moving and also that some employers were recruiting.
She remained determined in the wake of CBH Resources' announcement this week that it would cut 116 positions - more than half of its workforce - at its Endeavor Mine at Cobar.
"Living in a mining town we're used to the ups and downs, but you never get used to retrenchment," she said.
"It's a sad time but we're a resilient community."
She highlighted that Endeavor, where zinc, lead and silver are mined, was not closing altogether.
"They're still going to employ 60 people for the next two to three years," she said.
The president also noted Endeavor was one of three mines at the town and reported the other two mines were looking for staff, saying some retrenched workers may be able to pick up some of those positions.
Ms Harland also reported Cobar Shire Council had advertised six positions this week and there were various other vacancies advertised.
"There are quite a few positions vacant this week and we're currently working with the mayor and other local organisations, for example TAFE, to look at retraining options," she said.
Cobar had some businesses that were "struggling" and a couple had closed but others were "doing very well".
The president also said the Cobar Business Association was a proactive committee.
"We have a good mix of members, some new faces who are keen to see our local economy thrive," Ms Harland said.
The business association would continue its shop locally campaign, the Cobar Quids, which was supported by all three mines, the president said.
The association was also planning workshops to help equip local businesses to tap into the online market.
This week Peak Gold Mines advertised multiple positions vacant for the roles of crew services, mine electrician, analytical chemist, production metallurgist and payroll officer.
The mine located at Cobar produces gold ore and copper concentrate, and is owned by New Gold, a Canadian intermediate gold producer.
