“The photo competition is all about showcasing the people, technology and innovative practices behind the modern Australian cotton industry’s positive story,” Cotton Australia General Manager, Michael Murray, said.
“Cotton Australia is giving away more than $8000 worth of prizes to the winning entrants, and the competition is open to all photographers: amateur, enthusiast or professional,” Mr Murray said.
“It’s a chance to celebrate the character of our wonderful industry,”
Photographers can enter their images into one or more of the three categories:
- Aussie cotton growers and industry personnel: capturing the character of the industry
- Aussie cotton families: people on the land
- Innovation in cotton: people demonstrating the latest technologies and equipment
The overall first place winner will take home a $4000 camera equipment voucher, with the runner-up awarded a $2000 camera equipment voucher.
Category winners will each be awarded a $500 camera equipment voucher.
Marsella Morris (Studio Works Narrabri, NSW) won Cotton Australia’s Click photography competition in 2012 and encourages people interested in photography to enter this year.
“I encourage photographers of all persuasions to enter Cotton Australia’s Faces of Australian Cotton photography competition,” Ms Morris said.
There’s more than $8000 in prizes available – which goes a long way to purchasing photography equipment.”
According to Ms Morris, winning the Cotton Australia Click competition in 2012 was one of her biggest achievements during the seven years she has been in the photography business.
“Since that time, I have been commissioned to do work for the Commonwealth Bank in conjunction with Cricket Australia and M&C Saatchi Australia, and have my photographs on display at the Narrabri and Tamworth hospitals,” Ms Morris said.
Recipients will be announced and their winning entry displayed at the 18th Australian Cotton Conference at the Gold Coast (August 2-4, 2016). Conference delegates will vote for the people's choice category, with the recipient taking home a $500 camera equipment voucher.
A judging panel consisting of professional rural Australian photographer, Joshua Smith (Joshua J Smith Photography), and an Australian cotton industry representative will select the winning entries.
- Entries close June 24, 2016, and should be emailed to faces@cotton.org.au and more information, entry requirements and terms and conditions are available from www.cottonaustralia.com.au
