BOBBY Burgun sighs as he walks across a paddock and explains things aren’t quite as they were before he came out in opposition to a rail trail proposal in Tumbarumba.
“Just that small piece in The Land and people are different, it’s not the same,” he said.
But he’s not about to back down in defence of the 405-hectare ‘Wattledale’.
“This corridor will cut 300 acres (121ha) of my property off from the rest, and there’s no water points up there,” he said.
Gilmore Progress Association president Jonathan Caffery says while township areas might be split about the rail trail, landowners in the areas affected are united in their opposition.
Speaking in Tumut on Sunday morning he said: “It might have divided people down here, but it’s not cutting through their property.”
He was concerned for his property’s bio-security and his family’s security. With wife Nakia, Mr Caffery is raising Nace, 9, Rori, 7, and twins Quinn and Quade, 4 on their 526ha property “Rosebank”.
