The Australian White breed popularity and entry numbers continued to soar at the 2016 NSW State Sheep Show, with the best of the best exhibits lining up for judge Jason Barker, Timor stud, Parkes.
Tattykeel stud, Oberon, and Ardess stud, Oberon, dominated the judging ring, sharing in the Australian White spoils.
Regarded by Mr Barker as a magnificent representation of the breed, the champion ram was sashed to Robert Gilmore, Ardess stud, Oberon.
Sired by Tattykeel 13413 and out of Tattykeel 36613, the champion ram won its class of ram born between April/ May 2015 before taking the top accolade.
At its first show for 2016, the 11-month-old ram presented plenty of carcase with great balance.
Robert Gilmore said the young rams display of a great top-line and smoothness stood out in the lineup.
Continuing on its earlier success at the 2015 Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show of being sashed champion ram lamb, the sash winning exhibit will remain at Ardess stud for an embryo transfer program.
The champion will then go up for sale at the end of spring.
Tattykeel stud, Oberon, almost achieved a second clean sweep of broad ribbons, taking out reserve champion ram, champion and reserve ewe, as well as most successful exhibitor and milk tooth group sashes.
The Tattykeel champion ewe came first in its class of ewes born 2014, after displaying the consistent genetics seen in her siblings, including embryo transfer sister, who was sashed champion ewe at the 2016 Sydney Royal Show.
Martin Gilmore, Tattykeel stud, Oberon, said it was an achievement to have a three-year-old ewe who continues to hold its structure and win top titles.
The judge commended Tattykeel stud on their breeding, saying “fellow exhibitors could learn from the stud on how to breed carcase but not shoulders”.
“She is absolutely magnificent and a deserving winner,” Mr Barker said.
