ALL categories attracted plenty of interest at the Dubbo store cattle sale last Friday when weaner steers topped at $1070 a head.

People are now prepared to invest in breeding stock and also finish cattle, according to PT Lord Dakin co-principal, Paul Dakin, Dubbo.

“Rain last week and predictions of more to come certainly helped the sale, encouraging restockers to rethink their business,” Mr Dakin said.

Weaner steers averaged $670 and heifers were quoted at $30 dearer with tops at $790.

Yearling steers made up to $1080 and heifers to $760 while cows with calves topped at $1580 and PTIC heifers made up to $1420.

A consignment of 30 Hereford heifers averaged $1368 for Peter and Karen Weller, Kikabul.

The McRae family, “Avoca”, Albert, sold 27 Angus weaner steers to $960, averaging $904.70.

Rick Sheldon, Gulgong, sold a line of Angus weaners, with steers selling to $950 and heifers up to $740.
