Highlights from the fourth day of Northern Beef Week. For the full schedule of which studs are open and when click here.

Upper Horton stud Dunbeacon Shorthorns had 40 sale bulls, as well as stud sires and a dozen first-calver heifers on display during Northern Beef Week. Stud principals Ian and Ali McDouall welcomed about 30 visitors to the property ahead of the stud's on-property sale on September 5. Boggabilla based stud, Merewah Poll Herefords, had a high traffic day of visitors during day four of 2016’s Northern Beef Week. The Stud principal, Andrew Mackay, pictured with Elders stock and station agents, Cody Scott and Anthony Triggs, said the day had been great with visitors expressing good interest in the 43 bulls on display. All of Mr Mackay’s sale bulls were available for inspection prior to his on property sale, on July 19. 

Bill and Judy Crowley, The Cottage Poll Herefords, Barraba. In preparation for their joint on-property sale with Kyan Poll Herefords and Tycolah Poll Herefords on Friday July 22, five top-quality two-year-old bulls were on show for potential clients. 

Adrian Spencer, Ironbark Hereford, Barraba. With an 83-year family history of stud breeding, Ironbark Hereford displayed their highest quality bulls on day four of Northern Beef Week. On show for potential clients were 70 20-month-old bulls in preparation for the annual on-property sale on Friday, August 26.

Tim Crowley with son Adam Crowley, holding Hugh Crowley, Brooklyn Angus, Cobbadah. Fifth-generation producer Tim Crowley established the stud in 1998 after a long family tradition in cattle production. Up for sale on day four of Northern Beef Week were 20 rising two-year-old Angus bulls.

Luke Smith, Kyan Poll Herefords, Barraba. Kyan Poll Hereford stud presented their 2016 draft of bulls to potential clients on day four of Northern Beef Week. Eight two-year-old bulls were on display in preparation for the joint annual on-property sale with Tycolah Poll Herefords and The Cottage Poll Herefords on Friday, July 22.

With few other cattle studs around them, Mountain Valley Poll Herefords and Angus, Coolatai had a good amount of visitors during day four of Northern Beef Week, greeting about 10 people before early afternoon. A good selection of stud principal, Ian Durkin’s bulls were on display including some of the 50 Hereford bulls for sale on August 11. They also had some Angus bulls on display,which can be purchased from the paddock. Mr Durkin is pictured with repeat buyer Glen Miller, “Wyoming”, Crooble,  his wife Shelley, Jack Grabham (3), his son Matthew (2) and Adrian Telfer. 

Principal Stephen Peake with sons Josh Peake and Nick Peake, Bowen Poll Herefords and Peake Angus, Barraba. For 20 years, the Peakes have conducted an on-property bull sale, with the 2016 event to land on Thursday, July 21. On show for potential clients on day four of Northern Beef Week were 60 Poll Hereford and 60 Angus rising two-year-old bulls.

Courallie J Herefords had strong interest in their 31 sale bulls on day four of Northern Beef Week. Stud principal Jim Hann welcomed about 20 visitors to "Glenidle", Narrabri, where they could view the stud's new sire, Days Freedom, purchased at the Dubbo National Poll Hereford Sale in partnership with Alkira Herefords, Delungra, as well as all bulls in their August 12 on-property sale. About 15 visitors to Kildare South Devons had the opportunity to view 20 sale bulls ahead of the stud's online sale through Elite Livestock Auctions on July 7 and 8. Pictured are stud principal Rick McDouall and International Animal Health representative Angela McLiesh, Gold Coast.

Fifty sale bulls were on show at the Truro Herefords open day at "Truro", Bellata, during Northern Beef Week. Stud principals Scott and Pip Hann welcomed more than 20 visitors to the stud in preparation for their sale on July 25. The Hann family - Scott, Pip, Matilda, 15, and Sophie, 12 - is pictured with visitor Terry Pawley, "Bonny Rig", Bellata.

Tycolah Poll Herefords welcomed about 50 visitors on day four of Northern Beef Week. On display were 45 bulls for the on-property sale on July 22, as well as heifers on their first calves. Meriden Limousins principal Pat Ryan, Merriwa, who is heavily involved with the Northern Limousin Breeders sale held at Scone on the first Friday in August, welcomed more than 200 visitors at Meriden’s first Northern Beef Week open day. Mr Ryan, who sold a bull to New Zealand in the 2015 sale, said he was excited to hear the bull is now heading to New Caledonia. Principal of Tivoli Angus, Hugh Kraefft, Merriwa, attested the success of his Tivoli lines firmly on the shoulders of local Merriwa cattleman and judge Rob Tindle. With more than 200 visitors to Tivoli’s first Northern Beef Week open day, keen cattle enthusiasts were able to view 27 Angus bulls, 21 commercial heifers and 14 stud heifers, adding to an already exceptional showcase.
