Big lines of station bred Angus weaner steers and heifers dominated the 3100 head yarding at Dubbo store cattle sale last Friday with the steers topping at $1265 and heifers to $1250.
PTIC heifer sold to $1280 while cows with calves topped at $1675.
The large drafts also attracted a larger than normal buying gallery with restockers vying from Bourke, Narrabri, Hunter Valley, Bathurst, Orange and local paying from $30 to $60 dearer than last sale.
Landmark Milling Thomas co-principal, Peter Thomas, Dubbo, said steer and heifer values were certainly dearer.
“Quality lines of Angus and black baldy steers from $3.70 to $4.50 per kilogram live,” he said.
PT Lord Dakin’s Paul Dakin, said the better result endorsed the improving returns being received in the fat market.
“Large numbers attract plenty of competition from all points of the compass,” he said.
Weaner steers sold from $455 to $1265 while yearlings sold from $830 to $1300, weaner heifers $350 to $1250 and yearlings $650 to $890.
Smaller numbers of cows with calves ranged from $1270 to $1660 however, PTIC heifers made $1280 and cows from $1030 to $1550.
The Nichols family’s Tollua Cattle Company, Throwley Station, Merriwa, who normally sell on AuctionsPlus decided to try the Dubbo market and were not disappointed when their 324 steers and 227 heifers of Wattletop Angus blood and six to eight months, averaged $946 and sold to $1150 for black baldies, $1140 for Angus and $1055 for Charolais steers with most bought by Coonamble district restockers.
Their heifer Angus and black baldy sisters topped at $930 while the Charolais sold to$880.
AAAW Pty Ltd’s Glenrock Station, Scone, big draft of 606 weaner steers sold to $1030 and 527 heifers to $735.
Pye family, “Calga”, Coonamble, sold 22 Red Angus cross steers at $1300 and their sisters to $1250 while the McDowell family, Pilliga gained $1115 for 14 Shorthorn weaner steers.
The herd dispersal of the Madden family, Coonamble, resulted in mixed age PTIC Hereford cows joined to Angus bulls making to $1550, averaging $1440 and Hereford steers (eight to nine months) off this cows selling at $905 with heifer portion $810.
