Highlights from the third and fourth days of Southern Beef Week.

The Kangaroobie property near Orange, home to Gilmandyke Angus was looking at its near best for Southern Beef Week on day four after recent rain. A steady flow of visitors was received by general manager Derek Hubert who understands the demands of commercial production and aims to breed stud sires to produce progeny with superior growth rates, high lean meat yields and marbling to suit today's beef eating demands. Rosedale co-principal James Millner pictured with rising two year old Rosedale Charolais stud bulls among the display of Charolais/Shorthorn cross and Charolais/Angus cross yearling steers at the Millner family’s "Murrumbidgerie", property on the Macquarie River at Dubbo. The grass fed Charolais and Charolais composite bulls were for private sale and attracted more than a dozen visitors from Coonamble, Mendooran and local areas. Mr Millner said the crossbred yearlings showing high weight for age at 12 months were a month off supermarket specification. Bulls available on property all year round or the annual bull sale in May 2017.

Three genuine buyers were among the half dozen visitors to Kidman Angus stud operated by the Carlow family at Gilgandra during day three of Southern Beef Week.
Stud principal Randall Carlow (pictured) was delighted with the outcome of the day explaining he enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere where he was able to have one-on-ones with visitors about their herd sire requirements. Bulls are available all year round on property, and at the Kidman Angus Annual Bull sale will be held on Tuesday, September 6, at the Dulcidene Selling Centre, Dubbo.

Waroona Murray Grey Stud Molong, a long time southern beef week participant was established in 1977 with the purchase of seven cows from the Wirraway Stud Carcoar and stud principal Graham Hobbs and parents Susan and Tony have continued to improve their herd using quality stud bulls form Hillview, Glencairn, Monteroy and Woodburn bloodlines. Pictured is Jason Sutherland, International Animal Health with stud principal Graham and Tony Hobbs at the Waroona Murray Grey stud display at Molong. A firm believer in the Murray Grey breed Mr Hobbs said he will remain a purist, “we like the Murray Greys and we don’t want to change”. Waroona will be holding an on property bull sale on Friday September 16.
