There were 1300 good quality store cattle yarded at Bega last Thursday, which sold to a “very strong market”, according to Chester and Smith, Bega, director Stewart Smith.

Mr Smith said the values continued on par with previous sales, with buyers from Leongatha, Pakenham, Orbost, Moruya, Gundagai and Wodonga competing with local restockers and two feedlot operators.

The yarding consisted of predominately Angus weaner steers, with a fair offering of heifers along with some dairy types.

Indicative prices for weaner steers ranged from $950 to $1250, with the top pen selling for $1490: and younger steers sold from $800 to $900.

Bullocks sold to $1700.

Heifers sold to $1250, with most selling from $750 to $850: while cows with calves sold to $1740.

Scott and Jo Dibden, Tilba Tilba, offered 25 Angus steers, weighing from 370kg to 435kg and sold for $1490.

Mr Dibden said he was “very pleased” with the sale of his Androssan/Hazeldean-blood steers.

“They are so far ahead in doing ability and weight gain,” Mr Dibden said.

Daniel and Damian Allen, Cobargo, sold 14 Angus steers, weighing 300kg for $1205.

“We are very happy with that sort of money,” Daniel Allen said.

“It gives us some confidence to continue investing in better bulls to improve our stock, and put money back into the farm.” 

R and I Allan, Timbillica, sold 26 Hereford steers, Gunyah-blood, for $1045, and the Estate Dulcie Watt, Bega, sold 12 Hereford steers for $1090.

The Dundindi Estate, Bega, sold nine Charolais-cross steers, for $1105 and 22 Angus steers, for $1080, with L Evans, Bega, selling six Hereford/Simmental steers for $1005.

M and J Oastler, Bega, sold 16 black baldy steers for $1040.

Five Angus bullocks weighing 550kg were sold by G Warden, Bega, for $1700, while Bruce Blackley, Bega, sold five Angus steers, weighing 570kg for $1700.

The Dundindi Estate, Bega, sold three Angus heifers for $1050, along with 18 Angus heifers for $830.

Garry and Rhonda Nicholson, Moruya, sold nine Angus heifers, nine to ten months for $800, and seven black baldy heifers, seven to eight months, for $825.

The Estate Dulcie Watt, Bega, sold nine Hereford heifers for $850, R and I Allan, Timbillica, sold 12 Hereford heifers for $740 and C Sheehan, Bega, sold 15 Charolais heifers $895.

John Harris, Cobargo, sold five Angus cows with calves for $1740.

Bega agents, Chester and Smith, and Pell Rixon conducted the sale.
