The reputation of the Yass district as a source of well-bred store lambs was proved on Tuesday when the 4th annual circuit sale conducted by Butt Livestock and Property, Yass, saw 16,360 lambs sold for a complete clearance and average $101.81 with a top price of $152.
Butt Livestock and Property, Yass, director, Phil Butt said the offering represented a wonderful opportunity for lamb finishers to purchase good lines of quality stock.
“There was tremendous interest throughout the sale from repeat buyers and many new ones,” Mr Butt said.
“Prices reflected the current strength of the sheep market which is supported by a terrific season.”
Top price at $152 was paid for 62 Border Leicester/Merino cross ewe lambs, August 2016 drop and unshorn sold on account Steve and Amanda Faulder, “The Ranch”, Yass.
Other significant sales included the pen of 148 Poll Dorset/Merino and White Suffolk/Merino cross lambs weighing 40.5kg sold by Peter and Sue Longley, Yass for $115.
Richard Buckmaster, “Roseville”, Yass, sold 98 mixed-sex Border Leicester/Merino cross lambs for $114, and Marcus Bush, manager Boambolo Pastoral Co, “Boambolo”, Yass, received $114 for his top pen of White Suffolk/Merino cross lambs weighing 39.5kg.
Cavan Station, Yass general manager, Matt Crozier sold 769 Poll Dorset/Merino lambs weighing 39.5kg for $112 while Frank Kaveney, Tallawong Pastoral Co, Yass, also received $112 for his offering of 518 Poll Dorset/Merino lambs weighing 39kg average.
Frances and Andrew Elsegood, “Bogo”, Bookham, sold 223 White Suffolk/Merino cross lambs weighing 38kg average for $112, and the Shannon family, Talmo Pastoral Co, “Weilora”, Binalong, received $110 for 850 White Suffolk/Merino cross lambs weighing 39.5kg.
George and Libby Elliot, “Balgalal”, Binalong, sold 191 Poll Dorset/first cross lambs weighing 39.5kg for $116, with a second pen weighing 33.5kg sold for $105.
Garryowen Pastoral Co, Binalong, principal Phil Bennett, was on hand with property manager, Brendan Corkhill, to see their top pen of 960 Poll Dorset/Merino lambs weighing 38.5kg sold for $106.
Sheep were purchased by buyers from Forbes, Yarrawonga, Victoria, Corowa, Tamworth, Cowra, Cootamundra, Wagga Wagga, Goulburn, Gundaroo and Young.
