Dexter’s are classed as dual purpose cattle, ideal for both meat and milk purposes.
Wymah Organic Olives and Lamb owner operator Mary Done said the breed were ideal for her organic enterprise.
“They are smaller and don’t crush the soil as much as a bigger breed,” Mrs Done said.
Their smaller shape makes their lean cuts of meat are suitable for the home freezer.
“I rotate the cattle with the sheep to help in grazed control of worms in the sheep mob, as a bonus their meat is exceptional.”
There are about 700 registered breeders in Australia.
