A unanimous judging decision resulted in a world first at the 2017 Royal Canberra Show, when the Speckle Park breed took out the top accolade of “Champion of Champions” in the interbreed beef judging.

For the first time in a major show ring across the world the Speckle Park breed was acknowledged as the interbreed supreme award winner.
Earlier sashed supreme beef bull of the show, Six Star Premier, an 18 month old Speckle Park bull, exhibited by Greg Ebbeck, Six Star Speckle Park, Bundanoon and Injaaz Farms, Dubai, firmly held the judges’ attention throughout the day.
Sired by Six Star Rare Commodity and from Six Star Pho-Finish G250, Premier weighed in at 755 kilograms, exuding a powerful presence in the show ring.
All three cattle judges, Greg Ball, Grenell Charolais, Singleton, Derek Hayward, Premier Cattle Company, Cambridge, NZ, and Ian Durkin, Mountain Valley Poll Herefords, Coolatai, commended the young bull for rising to the occasion as an example of what to expect with the Speckle Park breed.
A top-five of exhibits were judged to come to the supreme champion bull, with
Murray Grey, Ayr park legend L31, Limousin, Flemington Ka-Pow K20, Hereford, Lotus Legion, Charolais, Curragindi Landcruiser in the line-up with eventual winner Six Star Premier.
In earlier Speckle Park section judging Six Star Premier had won the 18 to 20 months bull class and junior champion prior to grand and supreme exhibit of the breed under the experienced eye of New Zealand judge Derek Hayward.
Mr Hayward admired the bull while on the move and its performance, bone quality and feet.
“The testicular development is outstanding – this young bull is super correct with a balance of bone and carcase,” he said.
“He’s a tremendously long fella and at the end of the day, length and weight will help in any breed.”
After overseeing the final line up of contending interbreed supreme bull exhibits, Mr Hayward concluded he was honoured to judge such a group of high performing animals, saying whether from a stud or commercial perspective, he would gladly put in an extra window at his home to view any one of them in the paddock.
Greg Ebbeck, exhibitor of Six Star Premier said its success in Canberra was a great way to continue the successful journey from the 2016 Royal Adelaide Show, where Premier brought home a clean sweep of calf, junior, grand and supreme champion of the Speckle Park breed.
