“It’s an honour to even have been nominated, but to get the tick of approval, I’m just over the moon,” Cr Seymour said.
Cr Seymour had served the Coolamon community through the council for 18 years. He was elected mayor in 2012.
He had been a dedicated member of the Rural Fire Service since 1957 and led numerous community groups, from the Marrar Hall Committee to Kinilibah Landcare Group.
He said he couldn’t have done it without the support of his wife and family.
A farmer himself, his commitment to the region came from the heart.
Cr Seymour’s family have been tied to the Riverina since the late thirties.
“It’s a great community. When there’s something on the table that will be of benefit everyone really gets behind you,” he said.
He describes community support as the best thing about the job.
