THE Armidale grazing property of Sydney-based fund manager Iain Gray, “Achill West”, has been sold by Meares and Associates of Sydney to local beef producers, Marengo Pastoral Company of Hernani.
Originally listed for online auction last November with a price expectation of $8 million to $8.5m, the 2216 hectare property was sold privately as a walk-in, walk-out package for an undisclosed price.
Formerly part of the Coventry family’s New England finewool empire, “Achill West” under present management carries up to 800 Angus breeders and produces Wagyu-cross calves for the Japanese market.
The new owners intend to use “Achill West” as a breeding station, while “Marengo” will be used principally for finishing.
