Separating the top sheep from the group was like splitting hairs for Aussie White judge, Jason Barker, Timor Australian Whites, Parkes, who was impressed by the line-up’s evenness.
“The rams are of exceptional quality, with beautiful balance, full of meat – lovely sheep right through from top to toe,” Mr Barker said.
He awarded champion ram to Gamadale 16/0114, exhibited by the Rowney family, Gamadale Australian Whites, Lascelles near Hopetoun, Victoria, for their August-2016 drop ram.
“He is a particularly good ram,” he said.
“He is beautifully well grown for his age and exhibits everything we are looking for: balance, correct pigmentation and hair pattern.”
The champion ram which weighed 90 kilograms was a son of Tattykeel 140209, purchased for $22,000 in 2015.
The Gamadale stud was founded in 2011 on embryos purchased from the Australian White Foundation Flock.
The reserve ram, Ardene ????, was exhibited by the Hodgson family, Ardene Australian Whites, Darlington, Vic, and had progressed from the June/July 2016-drop class.
The champion ewe, ???, was an August/September 2016-drop lamb by the $9000 Tattykeel 1400073.
“She is a beautifully balanced sheep, with a beautiful loin,” Mr Barker said.
“She has a nice hair covering and is what we are looking for in the Australian White sheep.”
Reserve ewe, Ardene ????, by ????, was from the June/July 2016-drop class.
Ardene stud was the most successful exhibitor.
