A TOP sale result following success in the showring and fleece competitions has set the scene for bigger and better years to come for Jeff and Bill Honeysett of Trynow Merino stud, Goolma.

Their 31st annual on-property sale on Monday cleared 40 of 46 rams at auction topping at $3200 and averaging $1430 selling to mainly local buyers.
Peter Doherty, “Roine”, Goolma, paid the top money when securing three rams for an average of $2867 for use in the flock of 800 ewes growing an average 18.5 micron wool. His top buy was a17.2 micron son of Roseville Park 3 (by RP12.2792 a son of RP09.0014).
Another at $2800 was by Trynow 117 of 17.7 micron while the third buy at $2600 was also by T117 growing 16.1 micron wool with 100 per cent comfort factor (CF).
Mr Doherty said the Roine flock had been based on Trynow rams since 1988 when is father, Paul started buying from the Honeysetts.
Jeff Honeysett’s brother, Greg and wife, Pauline, and family, “Sunnyside”, Goolma, outliad an average $1486 for 14 rams topping at $3000 for the 18.3 micron Wellington and Merriwa show grand champion sired by RP09.0014.
Chris Gillespie, Manager, “Burrunah”, Mudgee, a first-time buyer, secured six rams for a $1400 average topping at $2800 for the flock of 2000 ewes of 17.5 average micron and this year cutting an average 4.8 kilogram fleece.
The Burrunah flock is based on Egelabra and Grathlyn blood, however Mr Gillespie said he thought the Trynow rams were “very good sheep” and growing the right style of wool for the Burrunah flock – and a Roseville Park daughter stud.
Gerry Ryan, “Semillon”, Geurie, also paid an average of $1400 but for three rams topping at $1800.
Ian, Judy and Nathan Haynes, “Springdale”, Uarbry, bought four rams for an $1100 average for their flock of 2400 ewes growing an average 17 micron wool.
The sale was conducted by Landmark, Mudgee, with Dubbo-based stud sheep specialist Brad Wilson conducting the auction.
