MERINO rams sold to $6500 and averaged $1785 for 68 cleared at auction from 72 at the annual Allendale ram sale of Tony and Penny Inder and family, Wellington, last Saturday.
Demand from established clients competing with new kept prices on the rise from last year’s $1729 average for 58 rams resulting in them paying an extra $56 for their purchases this year.
The Doherty Brothers, Mark and Peter and families of Klondyke Partnership, “Roine”, Goolma, paid the top price among three purchases averaging $5833. Top ram and another at $$6000 were 19 and 19.2 micron sons of the 2013 Pooginook sale-topper PGK Jess while the other at $5000 was by PGK Buster also purchased in 2013.
The Dohertys join 900 Merino ewes of 19 micron average wool cutting 6.5 kilograms and likes to top ram for his overall body size and woolcut.
Returning for their fourth year Graham and Maree Colley, “Mountain View”, Hargraves bought five rams paying to $6000 and averaging $3120 for their 1800 ewe flock growing 17.5 micron and last year cutting 4.2kg. Mr Colley said he is double-joining for March/April and August/September lambings.
The Darlington family, “Karringal”, Geuire bought three to $4000 averaging $2933 while Anthony and Libby James, “Springvale”, Coolah, returned to secure five to average $2500 and top at $3000.
