Police were pelted with bottles, eggs, sauce and other projectiles while escorting fire trucks into the Deni Ute Muster to extinguish illegally lit fires.
One officer had dirty diesel oil thrown over their upper body, while two other officers were hit with shrapnel from an exploding butane gas can that had been tossed into a fire.
Deniliquin Local Area Commander Paul Condon said fortunately none of the officers were badly hurt.
“Unfortunately, the small few seem intent on spoiling the event for the greater majority, because any level of assault on our police is simply unacceptable,” Superintendent Condon said.
A total of 112 police officers were diverted to the event, resulting in drug detections jumping from eight in 2016, to 38 in 2017.
There were 14 cannabis cautions issued.
Random breath tests jumped from 326 in 2016, to 2526 this year, however only four people were charged with drink driving.
Ejections from the event fell from 23 to 12.
More than 15,500 people attended the 19th annual Deni Ute Muster with a total of 6313 utes tallied on site.
