The September 2013-drop cow, T&R Jewel J13, exhibited by RDM Angus, Wellington, was highly decorated as a heifer.
In Melbourne, the cow continued her good form, taking out the supreme champion Red Angus rosette in competition among seven stud exhibitors.
RDM Angus stud co-principal, Rachael Wheeler, said Jewell was a four-year-old cow, with a seven week calf.
“She’s always been a favourite, I really love this female,” Ms Wheeler said.
“She is just made so deeply and so soft and perfect through that front end and has a beautiful udder.”
Jewel would be flushed several times then put into the main donor program.
Jewel was by Canadian sire, DMM Creed 75W, also the sire of T&R’s Adelaide champion Red Angus bull, Red Solo Cup.
Red Solo Cup was also the supreme Red Angus exhibit at the Sydney Royal Show and part of the winning pair for the Hordern Perpetual Trophy, as well as the supreme interbreed exhibit at the Dubbo Show.
Melbourne Show judge, Craig Gapes, Triple M Red Angus, Rukenvale, said Jewel was an outstanding female.
“She is a female that I could go home with and slot straight into my program,” Mr Gapes said.
“She has got ‘brood cow’ written all over her.
“She is really easy on the eye, has freedom of movement, with a cracking bull calf at foot, and beautiful udder.”
Black Diamond Angus of the Kennedy family, Cowra, was successful in taking home junior bull award with Black Diamond Marlboro Red and the reserve ribbon with Black Diamond Madador, and junior champion female with Black Diamond 35X Mistress M501.
