FIRST-CROSS ewes topped at $228 while Merino ewes sold up to $170 at Narromine store sheep sale last Wednesday which yarded 6500 head and sold to Forbes, Central Tablelands, southern and local buyers.
Landmark Wilson Russ auctioneer, Marcus Bruce, Narromine, said the sale was firm on the previous month and ewes and wethers found new homes among restocker buyers.
Jason Hartin of Hartin Schute Bell, Narromine said the demand was strong, particularly on the strength of predicted rain later in the week.
Gordon Irving of Irving Irving and Company, “Toucan”, Warren, sold the top-priced $228 pen of 212 first-cross ewes, July/August 2016 drop August shorn ewes, scanned empty, to Glenalbyn Pastoral Company, Koorawatha, and will be joined after Christmas to Poll Dorset and White Suffolk sires for second-cross prime lamb production.
Mr Irving said the ewes had come off eight weeks of barley, chickpea and hay supplement at “Toucan” leading up to this sale.
Mike Williams, “Karawatha”, Dubbo, gained Merino ewe top of $170 a head for his draft of 337 two-year-old September shorn Roseville Park blood ewes he had purchased as weaners, bought by an Albert district restocker.
Kennedy family, “Bullaroa”, Come By Chance, gained $181 each for 202 first-cross ewes January/February 2017 drop, September shorn.
The Powell family’s Illawong Pastoral Company, Narromine, sold 173 first-cross ewes two to five years at $139; 77 second-cross mixed-sex store lambs topping at $111; 121 first-cross weaners at $109 and 315 unshorn Boxleigh Park blood Merino wethers 14 to 15 months, $75.
Chris and Rebecca O’Malley, “Carinya”, Narromine, gained $200 each for 149 first-cross ewes April/May 2017 drop, September shorn.
Giralambone “Womboin”, sold 502 Merino ewes, Egelabra blood, 15 months, $128.
