However, for many other people even the thought of Christmas brings pangs of loneliness for loved ones who may have passed on, who are living far away, or who can’t spend this time together due to divorce or separation.
There can be financial pressures with the cost of presents, parties, and catering for more people than normal over the period.
Being around family can also be stressful, all of which can be exacerbated by alcohol, which tends to flow more at this time of year.
The good news is there are practical tips on how to look after your own mental health and wellbeing, and cope with the possible adversities Christmas may bring.
On December 1 at noon, The Land will partner with the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP) to host the final online Friday Forum for 2017 at theland.com.au.
The expert panel is ready to answer your questions, including:
- Tips to reduce loneliness
- How to reduce relationship stress
- Understanding difficult relationships and how to strengthen them
- Recognising stress and anxiety
- When and where to seek help.
The panel members are Rural Financial Counsellor Fiona Mead; RAMHP co-ordinator Di Gill; Relationships Australia manager Matt Garrett, and a representative of Lifeline Australia.
