With the price of sucker lambs never been seen better there was plenty of value for money when selecting the next round of sires from the Weir family’s Pinewalla stud, Crookwell.
Kicking off with the stud Poll Dorset rams there were strong competition for what many viewed as a good line of rams.
The 10 stud Poll Dorset rams averaged $2550 topping at $3600 for son of Pinewalla 289-11 purchased by Scott Madden, Glenwood Park Poll Dorset, Goulburn.
The June 2016 ram weighed in at 132 kilograms with an eye muscle depth (EMD) of 45.5 mm and fat depth of 8 mm.
Mr Madden purchased the ram for his “sire outlook, muscle shape, and doing ability”, adding that he thought the ram was a good even type.
Purchaser of the 2016 top price ram, Ian Webster, Chatsworth Pastoral Company, “Chatsworth”, Binda ran second paying the second top money of $3200.
The Coledale 198-14 son weighed in at 120kg with a 46mm EMD and 8mm fat depth.
The support from repeat clientele continued with Joe and Julie Mooney, “Ballakina”, Goulburn, paying $3000 for a son of Pinewalla 17-14 who weighed in at 138kg.
While not to be out done Lindsay Picker, Pleasant View Pastoral Company, Crookwell, also paid $3000 for another son of Coledale 194-14 who weighed in at 122kg.
White Suffolk rams topped at $1600 for a son of Baringa 495-13 purchased by M.J. and C.A. Stephenson, Bigga.
While Dorset Horn rams reached $1200 for a son of Pinewalla 317-14 selling to Kanoona Park Partnership, “Old Mundar”, Curban.
In total 106 of the 161 rams offered sold for a $1267 average.
Eighty-one Poll Dorset rams averaged $1368, 17 White Suffolk rams averaged $1017 and seven Dorset Horn rams averaged $886
Narrawa Pastoral Company, Rugby, led the volume buyers putting together a draft of 14 Poll Dorset rams for an average price of $900.
Carrawongy Pastoral Company, Roslyn; Memundie Pastoral Company, Bigga; and Kadwell and Co, Crookwell, all purchased seven.
Pinewalla studmaster, Kim Weir, said after the sale he was appreciative of those who attended the sale and supported what Pinewalla was doing.
“We trust that purchasers found great value for money here today and are happy with their purchases” he said.
The sale was conducted by Elders Crookwell, with Steve Ridley the auctioneer.
