Boarder and North Star local Annabel Garland (pictured) is soaring after being announced as 2018 school captain at Brisbane’s St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School, saying she was honoured to have been selected for the leadership position.
“At St Margaret’s, I have been able to explore my passions and realise my strengths,” Annabel said.
“My education has allowed me to challenge and push myself in all aspects of my life, while also equipping me with the skills needed to overcome those challenges.”
Having attended St Margaret’s since Year 8, Annabel is enthusiastically involved in her academic studies as well as the vibrant sporting, music and performing arts life at the school.
A keen rower, Annabel capped off the 2017 season with a win in the second eight at the Head of the River. In that event, St Margaret’s won the Aggregate Cup for Champion School for the third consecutive year.
She also plays touch football, water polo and swims.
Music lover Annabel has been involved in the past two biannual school musicals – Annie and The Sound of Music – playing clarinet and saxophone in the orchestra pit.
In 2016, she enjoyed a term at St Anne’s in South Africa as part of the school’s Year 10 global exchange program.
“As school captain next year, I hope to ensure that everyone feels happy and comfortable at school,” she said.
“I hope they feel supported by their peers and that everyone feels confident to express themselves and their views.”
